Special thanks to Mighty Bargain Hunter for including my post on the Permanent Portfolio in this week’s carnival of personal finance.  This week’s theme was the American Flag and our distinguished host did a great job.  Here are a few of my favorite posts from the carnival.

Would You Risk Your Life To Get Out Of Debt?  by Nina over at Queercents.  Would you join the military just to get tax-free combat pay and save money on living expenses to pay your debt?  I wouldn’t but thank you, Nick, for your service to our country.

The Extreme Hypermiling Guide by Go Green Travel Green.  You can save quite a bit of money on gas by hypermiling, but be aware some of these tips aren’t for the faint of heart.

Time To Short Stocks by My Wealth Builder.  Personally, I don’t short stocks due to the risk involved.  My advice would be to increase your cash position if you think the market has further to fall, but you certainly can make a killing shorting the market if you have the balls for it.
