Today was a sad day:  I went for a dip and the pool and it was uncomfortably cool.  In another week or two, I probably won’t be able swim at all.  I love the fall and cooler weather, I only wish I could swim year-round.  But anyway, one with the links.

This week’s carnival of personal finance was hosted by BankerGirl and included my post about the best financial advice I’ve ever received.  Here are a few of the posts I found most interesting.

Why Index Funds Are Bad Investments by Steadfast Finances.  I disagree with most of this post.  People often make the mistake of attributing random chance to skill and failure to bad luck.  Statistically, funds with a record of out-performing the index rarely do so for long.  And even the term “out-perform” is a bit of a misnomer, because it doesn’t take risk into account.  If you get twice the return but take twice as much risk to get it, you didn’t actually out-perform the index at all:  you equaled it on a risk-adjusted basis.

My Friend Just Got Offered $290,000 To Work In Iraq by My Investing Blog.  I’d do it in a second.  You only live once, after all.
