Weekend Link Love And Carnival Roundup

2008 November 29

I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving.  It was a bit of a slow week around the blogosphere due to the holiday, but there were still plenty of great posts to go around.

Finance Blog Network

Here are some of my favorite posts this week from The Finance Blog Network.

Curt from Penny Jobs tells us to Stay Positive, But Realistic.  Nobody is denying the power of positive thinking, but it’s important not to let optimism blind you from reality.

Andy from Saving To Invest reveals some of his dividend picks for a down market.  Personally, I would go the ETF route if I were investing for income.

Rich Credit Debt Loan writes about financing your retirement through leveraging multiple income streams.

Passive Family Income writes about 10 things he’s thankful for.

Carnival of Personal Finance

Thanks to Living Almost Large for featuring my post on how to write a great cover letter in this week’s carnival of personal finance #180.  Here are some other posts from this week’s carnival I found interesting.

Broke Grad Student tells us that engineers are bringing sexy back.  Well, my engineering degree didn’t prevent me from getting laid off but I agree with the sentiment.

Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity gives us 13 quick ways to make a few bucks.  I’d like to add drunk adult clowning to this list.

The Happy Rock warns us of the fundamental problem with debt consolidation:  the debt isn’t the problem, it’s merely the symptom.

Thanks for the plug. I think next week the market is going to be very volatile. It will be interesting to see how Black Friday turned out for the retailers and how they going to plan for Christmas.

The early reports I’ve seen predict a 3% gain in black friday sales over last year. I don’t see how that could possibly continue until Christmas, though.
