After clearing yourself of credit card debt, the most logical step would be to keep off it. I've recently stumbled onto this post and this prepaid debit card thing looks like a reasonable alternative? Check it out and tell me what you think..

You should try to avoid "Bad Debt" as much as possible. Good debt, like a 30-year fixed rate mortgage and student loans, helps you build wealth. Your house and education will grow in value as the debt disappears. Bad debt, like interest on credit cards and consumer loans, destroys wealth. Please look at our Info Center (http://www.peoplesfinancialadvisor.com/info_center.php?id=6) for more about Good vs. Bad Debt.

Getting out of credit card debt feels great! I'm paying my last card off next month. The only thing I'd add to these list of tips is not to give up. It can get frustrating some times, but stick to it and eventually you be credit card debt free.

The problem with the cited statistic stating that the average credit-card holding household has credit card debt of $10,679 is that it's a snapshot in time. While I charge probably around $5-6k per month on my credit cards, I pay them all off when billed. Even though I'm paying them off each month, I, like many many others, still sway that 'credit card debt' figure. So I take that statistic with a grain of salt.
