You can show your Valentine how much you care about them without spending a fortune. Believe it or not, many of the best ways to say “I love you” come from the heart, and not your checkbook. If you’ve gotten used to relying on the store-bought cards and candy and expensive restaurant meal to appreciate your partner on Valentine’s Day, here’s a list of ideas to help you pamper your special Valentine while still remaining frugal this year:

Document the relationship: Take some time to create a video slide show or video montage of you and your partner’s relationship. Most computers come with Windows Movie Maker for free, which lets you add photos, video clips, captions and fun transitions between. You can burn your creation to DVD and watch it together.

Indulge in a favorite meal at home: Instead of waiting hours for a table at a packed restaurant on Valentine’s Day, make your favorite meal at home. Create atmosphere by playing romantic music and using your good china, and lighting candles. Go all out with an appetizer, first course, main dish that you wouldn’t have on a regular day, and a dessert. Even if you go with a seafood dish, you’re going to save money by making it yourself over fighting for table space at the restaurant on the big night.

Singing Telegram

Have a friend deliver flowers or balloons to your loved one and sing them a song. You must have a friend willing to do this as a favor!  Cheesy, but the ladies love it.

Coffee And Dessert

If the idea of staying in on Valentine’s Day makes you unhappy, consider going out just for coffee and dessert at a coffee shop. You’ll keep your expenses down, but can linger together talking and enjoying an evening on the town.

Movie Time!

Borrow movies from a friend or the library and enjoy an evening of uninterrupted snuggling on the couch. Consider making chocolate covered fruit or some other indulgence you don’t have on a regular basis to make the moment even more special.

Go For A Drive Or Walk

Consider driving around to re-experience any special spots you may have with your partner. Perhaps you had your first kiss on the park bench; or enjoyed a wonderful conversation at the local coffee house. If possible, recreate your first date – or spend time reminiscing about your favorite moments together as a couple.

Valentine’s Day is a day to show someone you care. With a little creativity, you can be romantic and show your partner how much you love them without spending a lot of money.
