I find i'm more responsible with my money when I have real cash on hand. By forcing myself to use it on a fairly regular basis, I find it keeps me 'in check' when I'm back using my debit and credit cards. Coins can easily add up as well. My wife and I have a mason jar for our coins at home because we used to find them scattered all over the house in drawers and so forth, and we found that it amounted to a sizable chunk of change.
