If you don't mind extending the time it takes to complete your degree consider part time study. I don't know if that is possible or if it is called something else in America, but basically take fewer papers (enough to keep your enrollment ticking over and degree progressing) and then work at the same time.

The benefits are pretty good:

* More time at college getting to experience the 'best years of your life'
* Only take papers you need
* Earning while you learn
* No student debt (if you are responsible)

Another way is to look for "free money" such as through FAFSA, grants, business associations, etc. Anyone interested should check out this blog

It's written by a college student and I found it really helpful and interesting.

Good advice - I think people in recent years are beginning to wise up and either save for school or take fewer classes to compensate for rising costs. When I graduated in 2002 the cost of attending my school (in state) was $9000 a year. Just five years later that figure had almost doubled.

I also happen to think that community college is underrated. If you can learn a trade or teach yourself, you can often do just as well (or better) than students attending a prestigious 4-year university.

Another way to save money in college is by using http://www.bigwords.com to get your textbooks. It will save you hundreds. They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers (including amazon, half, ebay etc) and rental sites (including chegg, bookrenter etc) to find you the best prices. You can even use them at the end of the semester to search for resellers to sell your books to.
