Green Investing through Wind Power
Wind power is everywhere, and it is free. As a renewable energy resource, it provides a nearly boundless source of power. Wind power investment strategies provide an opportunity to address our growing, everyday energy needs in the new millennium.
Wealth Through Wind Power
Wealth-building wind power opportunities are available both in the United States and in Europe. Wind power companies include wind turbine manufacturers, wind farm developers, owners, and operators, and smaller support companies supplying components, technology, or various services.
To get started green investing in wind power, look for publicly owned companies with wind energy interests. “Pure play” companies concentrate solely on wind power. These investments are easier to identify. However, potential investors should spend more time researching publicly traded, purely wind energy companies with foreign investment interests. A second category of potential wind power investment opportunities are through diversified corporations with a range of operations, including some wind power holdings.
Doing Your Due Diligence
There are some issues to consider before purchasing wind power stock shares. Research the company’s profitability and debt, the liquidity of the stock, and the markets the company trades in. Find out how much wind power business a company generates, and if shortages in wind power components affects the company’s ability to keep up with the increased demand for wind power facilities. Wind power pricing pressures may exist, and there is a chance that some stocks have rapidly rising prices. Wind power is a new industry, and there are always risks involved, due to a lack of information or company stock analysis when looking for investment opportunities (this is why I prefer index funds). I would recommend using Morningstar as a starting point for your due diligence. Their free account is sufficient for most, but investors serious about investing in individual stocks might want to consider a premium membership
, which gives you access to analyst research reports and recommendations.
Another investment opportunity is through participation in green power programs that use renewable energy resources. Wind energy is a recommended option for those wishing to purchase green power for three reasons. First, it is one of the cheapest and cleanest sources of renewable energy. Second, it is independent of fuel extraction or consumption. Third, it does not produce air pollution.
