For beginners, you should first try out investment products that are low risk, that provide moderate yield and those that are short term. In these days of online investing it can be tempting to swing for the fences with high risk stocks but taking the safe route at first is a much better option. Even though these provide less interest, the dividends that you will get can be placed and re-invested in other products later on. Investing in low risk products are good for first time investors because those with higher risks takes a badly hit if the stock market crashes.

Money market mutual funds are also safe investments who only invest in securities whose maturity is less than 90 days. Low risk options are invested by the firm which manages these funds. It is only when the market suffers will the returns drop. This kind includes products such as treasury bills, banker’s acceptance, commercial papers and the like.

Diversification of Funds: Treasury Bills

This is an investment product that is floated by the government. Maturity can range from days, weeks or even months. It is purchased at a lower value that its face value but is however redeemed at a higher value at the time it matures.

Diversification of Funds: Certificate of Deposits

With certificates of deposit, money is deposited for a fixed period which has a fixed return rate. Also a low risk product that has a term that ranges from months to five years. During this time, money cannot be withdrawn.

As always, diversifying your portfolio using a variety of the best low risk investments is likely to yield superior long-term results.
