A lot of people are wondering “How can I repair my credit?”, especially if they have run into an unfortunate set of circumstances or simply made a series of bad choices. Not everybody is going to have amazing credit, especially early on in their lives when they are not as financially stable as they would like. If you’re thinking “I’d like to repair my credit rating” then please read on for some advice.

Your credit score is a combination of factors. It measures how much debt you have, what that debt is for, and how long it has existed. Debt is not actually always bad, especially relating to credit. One of the best kinds of debt you can have regarding credit is owning a home. This showcases you as a reliable consumer who can make their mortgage payment every month. If your credit is not good it may take some time to improve it.

Businesses look at your credit rating as your prospective ability to pay back loans. If I wanted to improve my credit score, the first thing I would look at is how many loans I have and what their status is. If I was not current with them I would quickly try to bring them up to date, and make sure that they were the first thing paid every month. If you are having issues paying loans, stop taking them out if possible. A history of no loans is better than one of late and missed payments.

When I wanted to improve my credit score, I looked at ways I could slowly afford to take loans that were within my means. This can be something as simple as buying a cheap used car and making payments on it. As long as your payments are prompt your score will slowly get better. You can do this with a credit card too. If your budget is an issue just use the card for things like gas and groceries and be sure to pay it off, every month without fail.

The question “How can I repair my credit?” really took me a while to answer. Repairing my credit was a slow process. It took a couple years of realizing I simply had to stop spending money on things I could not afford. Every loan I took out was carefully monitored and I made sure to budget for it. So there is your answer for “How do I repair my credit?” In a nutshell, borrow money, and take out loans, but make sure you can afford them. If you cannot, then don’t, until you get your financial life back on track.

Here’s a tip. I’ve found that sometimes I forgot to pay off my credit card. Not because I didn’t have any money but I was just delaying it. It was a chore. After a couple of missed payments I decided to take things more seriously. I put a reminder on my phone. It pops up every two weeks to remind me to pay. I pay it off biweekly. The same way I get paid at work. It created a nice routine and I always have money to pay it since I’ve just been paid.
