Childhood is full of opportunities to play the part of a big kid and perform services and receive payment. These actions help develop a sense of responsibility as well as an understanding of the rewards associated with a job well done. There are easy ways to make money for kids and a multitude of opportunities available for children to provide services to their communities. From one-on-one services to servicing the community as a whole, children have a great deal of options to choose from.

Be a Tutor

Older children love to be able to relay what they have learned to their younger peers and often times it is easier for a child to learn from a child because there is less intimidation. Students who excel in math or reading can offer their time to work on math problems with younger students or work on writing and reading with children struggling in English. Often times, parents who work do not have the resource of time to spend the hour or two each day reviewing key concepts. A child who is proficient can take a younger peer under their wing for a small fee and help them fine tune their skills.

Babysit

Traditionally a favorite for youngsters, providing babysitting services for parents is a easy way to teach responsibility and for a child t earn extra money. Often times parents need a sitter for a few hours in between the time a child comes home from school and when they arrive home from work. This is an excellent opportunity for making money for kids earn extra money in the summer months.

Physical Services

Young boys full of energy and strength can help neighbors with home improvement tasks. Often times, a helper is needed for many projects and a young boy can be the much needed assistant to a busy homeowner. Some common tasks are:

  • Lawn cutting
  • Weed pulling
  • Hedge trimming
  • Snow shoveling
  • Fence painting
  • Pool cleaning (leaf skimming and pool bottom sweeping).

Delivery

Depending on the physical structure of the city a child lives in, delivering items to neighbors is a great way to earn additional money. One of the most common ways for kids to make money in the category of deliveries is the local paper boy. Children can also utilize a local neighborhood post office and assist neighbors in shipping packages. For neighbors that are elderly, a child can assist in dropping off and picking up medications for elderly neighbors, or running local errands for them if they are homebound.

Garage Sale Assistant

When garage sale season is up and running, the process of setting up all the items, and labeling them with process can be exhausting. A child can easily volunteer to assist an overwhelmed garage sale host with preparing the tables. Clean up after the sale is also an opportunity for a child to offer his or her services.

Each job that teaches a child how to make money as a kid is a learning experience with life lessons and values that they will carry along with them for the rest of their lives. Nothing can greater solidify the understanding of responsibility and earned rewards than actively engaging in odd jobs around a neighborhood.
